Whether you call it soccer or football, the FIFA World Cup is one of the biggest sporting events on the planet. This article will show you how to watch the World Cup on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV. You can even watch many of the games for free!

Watch the World Cup for Free With Univision

Univision, one of the largest Spanish language media corporations, offers over 50 World Cup matches for free. Univision offers both an app and a website. If you don’t have a cable subscription, this is the best way to watch the World Cup for free. Their iOS app is excellent, but you can also use their website, if you prefer. Their iOS app works in both Spanish and English, and is the easiest way to access live games. It even works with AirPlay!

There are a few Univision apps in the app store. Live World Cup matches are featured on the Univision Deportes app.

Simply install this free app and launch it. The app will take you through a tour of features. You don’t need to register or sign in to use the app. Simply tap on Menu and then Live Games. Any game with a green arrow next to it is currently live. You can also browse the schedule of upcoming matches. In addition to live games, there are clips of highlights, events, and other World Cup related content.

Watch the World Cup for Free With Ustream

Ustream is one of the best sources for live streaming content. Much of their content is free and easily accessible. The Ustream app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch supports AirPlay, so you can beam the show on to Apple TV.

The Ustream app is available in the App Store for free. After you have installed the app, launch it and tap on the menu button.

Tap the menu button on Ustream  to access the search feature.

You will see the main menu on the left side of your screen.

Tap the Ustream search button to access the search field.

Tap on search and then enter “world cup” in the search field, then tap the Search button on the keyboard. You will see a list of search results. Live videos are indicated on the screen. Choose one of the videos and tap on it. Your video will begin playing. If you are using an iPhone, you can put the device in landscape orientation to see it in full screen. Tapping on the screen once will reveal media controls. From here, you can activate AirPlay and watch the game on the big screen.

Ustream has a website, if you prefer it to an app. This may be ideal if your iPhone is running out of free space or you just don’t want to install another app. Simply go to the Ustream website and search for “world cup” from the top search field. You can play any live video and it supports AirPlay.

Not every video on Ustream is free. Some of the World Cup games will cost a few dollars to watch. If you look around, you can probably find enough free content to keep you entertained.

WatchESPN Live World Cup Matches

If you have cable, chances are you can activate the WatchESPN app or Apple TV channel and watch World Cup matches for free. Simply go to the App Store and download the WatchESPN app.  If you have Apple TV, there is a built-in ESPN channel featuring World Cup matches. You will need to follow the directions in the app or Apple TV channel in order to activate ESPN. If you have cable, you might as well just watch the games on TV, however this is handy if you want to watch the games on-the-go. ESPN also features live World Cup games on their website. Some content is available without activation.
